Stacy’s Soul Food

Stacy behind the counter at Stacy's soul food restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona

Stacy’s soul food restaurant at 1153 East Jefferson near downtown Phoenix, Arizona is surely deserving of being Phoenix New Times Best of Phoenix winner for 2004. Our first impression will bring us back for many more impressions. The Southern-style vegetables are nothing less than great. I had the fried chicken and it is easily as good as Mrs. White’s, who also has been a winner of Best of Phoenix awards. The peach cobbler was a nice touch to end our meal, but we look forward to the end of summer when we can try the sweet potato pie. Yummy.

Caroline gets Cooking

A smiling arangement of cilantro, fresh mint, limes, and jalapenos arre waiting to be chopped, squeezed and blended with water and spcies to make a yummy dipping sauce for the Indian dish Pani Puri

Can you tell who I was thinking of when I prepared the pani for tomorrow’s pani puri night (little hint)?

Well, the cooking really starts tomorrow, but for a while, I was sweating in the kitchen, blending mint and cilantro with jalapenos and spices to create the dipping sauce (pani) for tomorrow’s feast. John will probably post a recipe and a better description of this delicious Indian dish at some later time. Meanwhile, thank you, John, for providing support and advice lovingly over the phone while I was worrying over every detail. Wish you were home!

Caroline at the Movies

Udupi Cafe in Tempe, Arizona serves yummy vegetarian south Indian cuisine

Rinku, Raenu, Gautam, and I went to see Bride and Prejudice tonight. But the evening started with a delicious dinner at Udupi Cafe on Scottsdale Road in Tempe. Krupesh, Rinku’s brother, drove down there with us, and we all got stuffed. I highly recommend the Gobi Manchurian. Krupesh chose not to see the film, so we girls piled into Gautam’s car, and we headed to Camelview Theatre. The film isn’t as bad as reviews had me believe. There were a lot of funny scenes, and we laughed almost through the entire movie.
