A beautiful mare with her new foal shows us what happiness is.
Celia here at Chile Acres got Caroline and her mom back on the horses today to add a bit more familiarity while my mother-in-law is still visiting us. She and Jimmy also invited the three of us into their home for lunch.
She’s a good sport.
I think my mother-in-law is turning into a farmer in addition to being a Cardinal’s fan, what have I done to this previously dignified old lady?
After dropping Caroline off at work, Jutta and I made our way out to Tonopah Rob’s farm to play in the dirt, take photos, talk about Germany, and laugh about Jutta sticking to water which Rob couldn’t stop laughing at after asking her what she’d like to drink during lunch. Maybe he imagined too well what someone stuck to water might look like?
Before picking up Caroline, Jutta and I hit the gym which is our routine and then we fetched Caroline so that she and her mom to sit in on a drop spindle spinning class at Fiber Factory out in Mesa. Keeping the mother-in-law busy every day isn’t easy.
That’s Jerry Roberts on the left, Rob Lazzarotto in middle, and of course my mother-in-law Jutta Engelhardt on the right. The team is preparing onions for the weekend market.
While Rob and Jerry are off tending to other tasks, Jutta is cleaning up the oranges.
Before leaving the Tonopah area, we stop in on Jimmy and Celia at Chile Acres where Jutta lends a hand to bottle-feed a kid. I don’t this German lady ever imagined going to America and spending so much time on farms.
Good, cheap migrant labor isn’t always easy to come by, but when you have a German mother-in-law spending time with you, it’s easy to sell her on working for nothing if you package it as part of the American experience.
Yesterday we were at Chile Acres and while the blog entry focused on my mother-in-law, my little cowgirl was out here too and this cute photo of her just had to find its way to my site.
