Oh my god, I woke up this morning with this in my ear!!! Just kidding. But seriously, Caroline woke up with it crawling across her forehead. Fortunately, I caught it, as last time Caroline caught one I nearly disgorged the upper third of my digestive system. A little-known fact about Germans, a secret they guard due to the universal disgust most people of the world would find with this act, is that they love fresh cockroaches and will pop them into their mouths like a fresh gummi bear. Blech, it is so gross but sadly true, my wife is a cockroach-eating connoisseur. And because I thought many of you might not believe this disgusting morsel is a welcome hors d’oeuvre in Caroline’s repertoire of culinary indulgences, I have saved this roach after having it pose for the camera, just in case I needed a follow-up photo showing her munching down on this extraordinary insectian crudites of sorts. Bon appetite or as they say in German: “Fold six legs up, hold down the wings, in with the head, crunchy crunch crunch!” – of course in German it sounds much better.
It was a joke, really!!! I have never eaten a cockroach in my life and it is not a German custom. Although, properly cooked with some soy sauce or spicy mustard… just kidding!
hey john, this looks like the ‘friend’ that scurried across my chest during the wee hours of the night while trying to sleep in Lahaina a few years ago. Nearly caused me to leap through a sliding glass door with terror.
I wondered why the bushes were moving in the lignt of a sunset – with no wind. Thousands of these guys. Everywhere. They don’t tell people about the size of bugs, do they, before one travels to hawaii for the first time.
does you wife really like to eat these or is this a joke. and what did you find about your sleep study? my husband did one years ago. just curious.
Hi Pamela,
It’s great knowing you stop by from time to time, thanks.
My sleep study, I should probably post a follow-up as to what has happened since starting to wear the cpap (sleeping mask and breathing apparatus) – my life has changed and made a complete 90 degree turn. I will wear this probably the rest of my life if need be. My memory is working better, I do not get drowsy driving any more, I do not get up during the night for the restroom, I’ve started losing weight, my blood pressure is down, my libido is up, I wake up on my own 90 minutes earlier than when I would have to be shook out of bed, I can sleep on my back again, I don’t nap during the mid-day, I have had to cut way back on salt (I attribute this to the fact that my taste buds must be working better because I don’t breath overnight with my mouth open and awake with a parched mouth 3 – 5 times a night), I have more energy – combined with waking earlier and finding myself bored, I have started exercising.
The sleep study and resulting cpap device I am now married to were life altering – in a very positive way. Lucky me, the mask doesn’t bother me much at all – sometimes when rolling from back to side. The noise doesn’t bother me either as we have always had fan noise in our rooms. Like I said, this should and probably will have its own entry soon.
