The last of the Swensen’s Restaurants in central and northern Arizona is holding on in Phoenix. The only other AZ location of his once-popular ice cream shop is in Tucson. I ordered a favorite first made for me 25 years ago in Los Angeles, a milkshake made of coffee ice cream, chocolate syrup, and a fresh banana.

Apparently, Swensen’s is still quite popular in Asia, as the only website I could find for Swensen’s is located in Singapore. Singaporeans have 20 Swensen’s available, with one open till 3:00 a.m. on weekends and another open 24 hours a day. Are we really so boring here in Arizona?
