Today was our 11th Anniversary. Caroline Elizabeth Engelhardt married me 11 years ago at 12 minutes past 12 midnight on the 12th day of January, 30 days after her birthday on the 12th day of the 12th month. We were married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas on a trip from Frankfurt, Germany, to America with 4 of our friends in tow. The rings are of Navajo design supplied to us by Lani Randall of Rocking Horse Southwest Jewelry.
Kirk and John
Kirk Kimerer and I met nearly ten years ago, shortly after Caroline and I moved to the United States from Frankfurt, Germany. Caroline and I had opened an internet cafe, and it was here that we met Kirk. We don’t meet regularly enough, so today’s meeting was to catch up on things and talk podcasting.
Podcasting
Darrell Smith convinced me to take a hard look at podcasting, and it turned out to be an immediate addiction. The software is still in need of development, but the players who are starting their own programming are racing out the door. Madge Weinstein of Yeast Radio is the “woman” in the background. iPodder is the software used for downloading podcasts, and podcast.net is one of the first guides to available content. Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code is my favorite podcast at the moment, and no, podcasting does not rely on iPods.
Grandpa Herbert
Visiting my maternal Grandfather Herbert (Herbie) Kurchoff. My Grandfather lives with my mother and his older sister who is my Great-Aunt Eleanor, who is 92 years old.
The Aviator
Grandpa Herbert, Caroline, and I went to see the 1:30 matinee showing of The Aviator with Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes. Before taking off for the movies, we dragged everything we would need to make poha for Mom. She liked it but thought it was too dry; maybe some mango chutney would improve what she suggested. The film was okay, but the heavy focus on Howard Hughes’ obsessive-compulsive disorder distracted from his accomplishments a little too much for my liking; as a matter of fact, this could have been a film about anyone with mental instability. Before leaving Mom’s, we stopped downstairs to say hi to Aunt Eleanor, who is still recovering from hernia surgery from earlier in the week. Even in recuperation with a bit of congestion, she is the sweetest old lady I have ever known. If only everyone could have a touch of her good-natured demeanor, the world would be a much nicer place.
Dinner
Homemade tomato sauce using fresh peeled tomatoes, mushrooms, basil, and lots of garlic.
